This is a drawing that I entered in a women's magazine cover contest. I was placed as a contender to win but ultimately they chose another artists design. They are reserving this for a possible later date to be used.
I chose to use a young woman's body with the hair of an aging woman, representing the broad range of women...and men that are affected by breast cancer.
I am very proud of this design. It has a very special meaning to me. I sketched this while I was recovering from my own brush with breast cancer.
Breast cancer has stolen the lives of many people that I love. I am determined that it will not take mine!!!
There are no words to describe the fear that shoots through you when you receive that phone call informing you that you have breast cancer. After the first few words of the conversation you really don't hear the conversation anymore. Your mind is racing with fear and shock. Then, reality sets in and you have to start preparing yourself for what is ahead. There are times when you feel so alone...like no one else knows what you are going through. I am very lucky though to have some very special people in my life who have held my hand and helped me past this fork in the road. There are many who have no one to love them and console them and just let them know that it will be ok. My heart goes out to them!!
It was very therapeutic to do this drawing!! I hope that you enjoy it!! Please feel fee to comment if you would like!!
